University of Žilina (UNIZA) – Slovakia
The University of Žilina is a prestigious educational and research institution in the Slovak Republic with a unique profile in technical and security fields. Through its Faculty of Security Engineering, the university provides specialized education in Crisis and Security Management, Civil Security, and Fire Protection.
UNIZA brings a high level of academic expertise to the project, focusing on the scientific evaluation of safety procedures and the development of modern training methodologies. With over 8,000 students and a long history of participation in international EU projects (Erasmus+, Horizon, etc.), the university acts as a vital bridge between theoretical research and practical application. In the „SAFE FIREFIGHTER” project, UNIZA contributes its extensive experience in disaster management and technical rescue, particularly in mountainous and extreme weather environments.
SPSCH Pardubice – Czechia
The Secondary Technical School of Chemical Industry (SPSCH) in Pardubice is an educational institution of trans-regional importance with a history spanning over 70 years. While deeply rooted in chemistry, the school has successfully expanded its curriculum to include highly specialized fields such as Fire Protection and Law Enforcement.
SPSCH provides education for more than 1,000 students and is a government-funded state school known for its active participation in the Erasmus+ programme. Within the „SAFE FIREFIGHTER” project, SPSCH Pardubice plays a crucial role in developing teaching methodologies for rescue operations involving hazardous materials and high-altitude rescue. Their expertise in chemical safety (CBRNe) and their modern approach to vocational education (VET) ensure that the project’s outputs are practical, motivating, and tailored to the needs of the next generation of rescuers.
Firefighters Training School (UGM) – Lithuania
The Firefighters Training School (UGM) is the only professional training institution in Lithuania dedicated to preparing qualified and multi-skilled firefighters-rescuers for the National Fire Prevention and Rescue Service and Municipal Fire Brigades. The school’s mission is to foster a culture of prevention and safety through continuous education in fire safety, civil protection, and rescue operations.
As the Lead Partner and communication coordinator of the SAFE FIREFIGHTER project, UGM gathers and shares theoretical knowledge while improving practical capabilities in various rescue fields. The school prepares approximately 120 to 200 new firefighters annually and provides advanced training for over 3,000 professionals from various sectors. UGM’s vision is to implement modern, science-based methodological activities that ensure every responder is prepared for high-risk challenges with a focus on self-preservation and professional discipline.
State Fire and Rescue Service (VUGD) – Latvia
The State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia (VUGD) is the primary national authority responsible for fire safety, rescue works, and civil protection. The VUGD Fire Safety and Civil Protection College is the specialized educational arm that ensures Latvian firefighters are trained according to the highest European standards.
VUGD brings invaluable field experience to the „SAFE FIREFIGHTER” consortium. As a national rescue service, they provide the project with real-world data and practical insights into the challenges faced by first responders. Their focus within the project is on enhancing safety protocols for CBRNe (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) incidents and improving the overall quality of professional training. By integrating their operational know-how, VUGD ensures that the project’s videos, podcasts, and guides are grounded in the daily realities of the firefighting profession.
